New York is leading the way in governance and advocacy for nightlife as an established sector, supported by the appointment of Ariel Palitz as the first Nightlife Mayor (formally the Executive Director for the Office of Nightlife) and the Nightlife Advisory Board. Advocacy groups such as New York Artist Coalition have fought to repeal the Cabaret Law and have organized mediation talks about unannounced raids that take place in nightlife venues during business hours.
